The head of the League faction in the Italian Senate, Massimiliano Romeo, called on French President Emmanuel Macron not to interfere with efforts to achieve peace in Ukraine by sending European troops to Ukrainian territory. This was reported on August 23 by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.

"If Macron abandons his intention to send European soldiers to fight in Ukraine, the issue will be closed," Romeo shared.

He also added that it makes no sense to continue talking about the European nuclear umbrella, European armies and missiles now. Romeo is confident that US President Donald Trump and those who really want a truce can establish it by working together.

On August 21, France summoned Italian Ambassador Emanuela D'Alessandro after she said that in order to provide security guarantees to Kiev, President Emmanuel Macron himself should put on a helmet and go to Ukraine.

Earlier, on August 20, Pavel Feldman, Candidate of Political Sciences, professor at the Academy of Labor and Social Relations, in an interview with Izvestia, ruled out plans to deploy NATO troops in Ukraine in the near future. According to him, during the negotiations, Moscow will again need to explain to its European partners that such an approach to settlement is unacceptable for it.

Prior to that, on August 19, Bloomberg learned about the readiness of about 10 countries to send troops to Ukraine as part of providing possible security guarantees for Kiev.

All important news is on the Izvestia channel in the MAX messenger.
