Germany told about a new stage of the peace process on Ukraine at the summit in China

A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing, with the possible participation of US President Donald Trump, may become a new important stage in the peace process in Ukraine. This was announced on August 23 by German political scientist Alexander Rahr.

"The next decisive moment in the fate of Ukraine may be the summit in Beijing on September 3, 2025, the day of celebrations of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Europe is not present at the meeting, but joint diplomatic initiatives of the three powers — China, Russia, and the United States — are not excluded," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Rahr noted that the European Union (EU) has returned to its previous tactics of action against President Trump in order to abandon his peacekeeping efforts in Ukraine in favor of Russia.

"Berlin, London and Paris do not see Ukraine's imminent defeat on the battlefield," he added.

When can we expect a trilateral summit and from what positions will Moscow, Washington and Kiev approach it?

The Guardian newspaper reported on August 21 that the American leader intends to temporarily move away from the peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine in order to allow Moscow and Kiev to hold a bilateral meeting of the leaders of the countries.

At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Putin was ready to hold talks with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky if all issues requiring discussion at the highest level were well worked out. Lavrov recalled that the Ukrainian leader has not yet revoked the decree, which explicitly prohibits contact with the President of the Russian Federation.

Former Italian Deputy Minister of Economic Development Michele Geraci told Izvestia on August 16 that Europe had effectively deprived itself of its role as a mediator in resolving the Ukrainian conflict when it sided with Kiev. According to him, the European Union is currently isolated and in a very bad economic and political situation.
