The deployment of German troops in Ukraine would be a fatal mistake and would not contribute to achieving peace. This was stated on August 23 by Alice Weidel, co-chairman of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, in an interview with the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.

"The deployment of German soldiers in Ukraine would be a fatal mistake. This would not ensure peace, but rather would lead to a constant escalation of the conflict with Russia," she said.

As Weidel clarified, the European Union (EU) is turning itself into a target, while the United States is withdrawing from this conflict.

"I would expect such a peaceful initiative from leading European politicians. Instead, for three and a half years we have been hearing only warlike calls. A neutral position would be preferable," she concluded.

On August 21, Reuters reported that the United States and a number of European countries had finalized proposals on security guarantees for Ukraine. According to Reuters sources, one of the options was to send European troops to the territory of Ukraine, with the United States commanding and controlling them. The agency also writes that security options will be presented to each country's national security advisers for consideration.
