Two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than 5.0 occurred off the eastern coast of Kamchatka

Two earthquakes of magnitude over 5.0 were recorded by seismologists off the eastern coast of Kamchatka. This was announced on August 23 by the Kamchatka branch of the FIT of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences in its Telegram channel.

A magnitude 5.2 seismic event was recorded at a distance of 219 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at 19:58 local time (10:58 Moscow time). The source was located at a depth of 25.7 km.

The first earthquake occurred three hours earlier. The seismic event was recorded at a distance of 180 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at 16:22 local time (07:22 Moscow time). The source was located at a depth of 60.1 km. Its magnitude was 5.3.

Earlier, on August 22, an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 was recorded at a distance of 220 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
