NATO denied plans to send troops to Ukraine
NATO does not discuss sending its military contingent to Ukraine. This was announced on August 23 by Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chairman of the Alliance's Military Committee, in an interview with the Corriere della Sira newspaper.
"These issues are part of international politics and negotiations with Moscow," he said.
Dragone called the talks about the possible deployment of troops premature, noting that individual countries could only raise this issue on a bilateral basis.
"I do not even know if there are ready-made troops at all, and perhaps someone could consider the option of soldiers from non—NATO countries," he concluded.
On August 21, Reuters reported that the United States and a number of European countries had finalized proposals on security guarantees for Ukraine. According to Reuters sources, one of the options was to send European troops to the territory of Ukraine, with the United States commanding and controlling them. The agency also writes that security options will be presented to each country's national security advisers for consideration.
