A powerful Class M flare lasting 72 minutes was recorded on the Sun. This was announced on August 22 on the website of the Institute of Applied Geophysics named after Academician E.K. Fedorov (FSBI "IPG").
"On August 22, at 21.51 Moscow time, an M1.7 (S18E87) flash lasting 72 minutes was registered in the X—ray range," the scientists said.
At the same time, according to forecasts, on August 23, the magnetic field is expected to be calm with some periods of instability.
On August 19, the Sun experienced an outbreak of the penultimate power level, Class M, which lasted 50 minutes.
Earlier, on August 15, the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS reported that a large coronal hole is forming on the Sun, which can cause an increase in the speed of the solar wind and lead to an aggravation of the geomagnetic situation.
