The US Department of Justice has released a transcript of the interrogation of British businesswoman Ghislaine Maxwell, convicted of aiding and abetting the sexual exploitation of minors. This was reported by The Daily Beast on August 22.

The interview was conducted by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche. Previously, he worked as the personal lawyer for the head cases of US President Donald Trump.

In the conversation, Maxwell denied any inappropriate actions on Trump's part. She also noted that their relationship was superficial.

Critics said Maxwell was trying to shield Trump in order to get benefits for himself. After meeting with Blanche in July, Maxwell was transferred to a maximum security prison in Texas, which raised suspicions about possible behind-the-scenes arrangements.

According to the transcript, Maxwell claimed that she did not know how close the relationship between Trump and Epstein was.

"I think they were friendly, just like people in a social environment. I don't think they were close friends," Maxwell said.

The publication of the transcript coincided with the beginning of the transfer to Congress of previously classified files on the Epstein case. Against this background, discussions have intensified about the former president's ties to the convicted financier and the possible concealment of information by the authorities.

Earlier, on August 6, it was reported that Maxwell opposed the publication of transcripts with accusations. The main reason could be the threat of a possible retrial.
