J.D. Vance confirms investigation into John Bolton
US Vice President Jay Dee Vance has confirmed that the administration of US President Donald Trump has launched an investigation into former national security adviser John Bolton. This was reported by NBC News on August 22.
On Friday morning, the FBI raided Bolton's home in Maryland due to an investigation related to the storage of classified documents and possible leaks to the media.
"We are in the early stages of an ongoing investigation into John Bolton. <...> we don't think we should throw people in jail just because they disagree with us politically. We will let the law govern these decisions," Vance said on NBC News.
Vance added that the case could end without charges if no violations are identified.
According to NBC News sources, investigators are investigating the storage of classified documents and their possible use for media publications. Bolton served as national security adviser in the Trump administration until their conflict in 2019. After his resignation, he became one of the president's harshest critics.
"If the media and the American people allow this case to unfold, they will see that what we are doing is very deliberate and guided by national interests," Vance said.
Earlier, on August 12, Kirill Dmitriev, special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for cooperation with foreign countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), commented on information about a data leak against Donald Trump. He said that information leaks in the media against the US president were also arranged to denigrate Russia.
