Pupils of grades 5-7 in the Russian Federation want to reduce the study of English to two hours

Starting from September 1, 2025, the number of English language hours in Russian schools for students in grades 5-7 will be reduced to two per week. This was announced on August 22 on the website of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

It is noted that the change may take effect from the beginning of the new academic year and will be valid throughout the country. This decision was made in order to optimize the learning load and make more rational use of time.

The ministry stressed that the reduction of hours will not lead to the exclusion of the subject from the curriculum, but is aimed at finding an optimal balance in the educational process. The Ministry is confident that basic knowledge of a foreign language will be provided within the prescribed number of hours. For comparison, in grades 5-6, one hour per week is allocated for studying "Biology" and "Geography".

The main changes will affect the way of communication and school uniforms.

On August 6, the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation established a standard of working hours per week for teachers. According to the Ministry's law, the average teacher must work 18 hours a week. It was reported that preschool teachers, as well as educational psychologists and social educators should work 36 hours a week. This rate is reduced to 30 hours for physical education teachers and senior teachers, and up to 25 hours for educators working with children with disabilities.
