Dynamo awarded Ovechkin the golden stick for the record in the NHL
Captain of the National Hockey League (NHL) club Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin received a golden stick from Dynamo Moscow for his sniper record. This was reported on August 22 in the Dynamo Telegram channel.
A solemn ceremony honoring Ovechkin took place before Dynamo's test match with Ak Bars Kazan at VTB Arena. The athlete's personal banner was hoisted under the stadium arches before the start of the game.
During the ceremony, a congratulatory video in honor of Ovechkin was also played on the arena's media cube.
Earlier, on August 17, it was reported that Ovechkin entered the Russian Book of Records as the best sniper in the history of the regular league championships. He scored his 897th goal on April 18. A new record was set in a game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Washington's owner Ted Leonsis noted on May 18 that Ovechkin had written his name into history.
