Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov held a telephone conversation with Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Delcy Rodriguez Gomez. This was stated on August 22 in a message posted on the website of the Russian Foreign Ministry.

"Lavrov expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan leadership and confirmed his full support for its efforts to protect national sovereignty and ensure institutional stability in the face of growing external pressure on Caracas," the ministry said.

They also confirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership between Russia and Venezuela. The parties discussed current bilateral issues and agreed to step up cooperation and coordinate approaches in global affairs, including within the framework of the Group of Friends in Defense of the UN Charter.

The countries are also discussing the possibility of their release on the territory of the republic.
