The Syrian government will issue new denominated banknotes in the national currency, which will be printed by the Russian company Goznak. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on August 22, citing sources.

"Syria has agreed with the Russian money printing company Goznak to issue new banknotes," the material says.

According to the agency's interlocutors, the deal was concluded at the end of July, when a high-ranking Syrian delegation visited Moscow. Now the goal of the Syrian authorities is to issue denominated banknotes to restore public confidence in the country's currency.

As noted by "Gazeta.Ru", previously Gosznak printed banknotes for Syria in denominations of 2 thousand Syrian pounds in 2017 with a portrait of former President Bashar al-Assad, as well as 5 thousand pounds in 2019 with the image of a soldier.

Earlier, on July 31, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shibani, during a meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, said that Syria was interested in Russia's participation in the process of restoring the unity of the republic. He also noted that Damascus is striving to establish proper cooperation based on cooperation and mutual respect.
