Rolls-Royce has plunged the Phantom luxury sedan into the pool in honor of the model's 100th anniversary. The brand's press service shared photos of the car on August 22. The performance refers to the legend of The Who's drummer Keith Moon, known for his scandalous antics, who drowned a Rolls-Royce in a hotel pool celebrating his 21st birthday.

Accounts of what really happened that night at the birthday party vary greatly. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine in 1972, Keith Moon stated that the car that drowned in the pool was a Lincoln Continental belonging to another hotel guest, and the car was allegedly accidentally removed from the handbrake. Other guests of the party claim that no car got into the pool. Regardless of whether the car was in the pool or not, the myth proved so powerful that it became part of rock and roll culture.

The location for the Rolls-Royce photo shoot was the Tinside Lido pool in Plymouth, Devonshire, where The Beatles members were photographed one day in 1967. The British automaker noted that its cars are inextricably linked to the world of music. They were owned by John Lennon, Elvis Presley, Pharrell Williams, Duke Ellington, Fred Astaire, Count Basie, Ravi Shankar, Edith Piaf and Sam Cooke, Elton John and other artists.

The scene with the Rolls-Royce in the pool was repeated many times. For example, in 1997, a British sedan in this form appeared on the cover of an Oasis album, and in 2005, Jeremy Clarkson launched a car into a swimming pool during the filming of the Top Gear show.

The day before, it was reported that in July 2025, Russians purchased 248 used Luxury cars. This is 19% more than a year ago, and 7.4% more than in June 2025. The most popular luxury used car in the middle of summer was the Bentley Continental GT coupe.
