U.S. Treasury Undersecretary Michael Falkender is leaving his position less than five months after Senate confirmation. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) on August 22, citing sources.

"Michael Falkender, the second most important official of the Ministry of Finance, is leaving the administration less than five months after his candidacy was approved by the Senate," the publication says.

According to the newspaper, Falkender was involved in the daily activities of the ministry, and also served as commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) during the leadership change of the tax department.

It is clarified that his departure was the second after the recent resignation of IRS Commissioner Billy Long, who was also confirmed to his post by the Senate.

The day before, Bloomberg reported that the US Department of Justice called for the resignation of Lisa Cook, a member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System (FRS). According to the agency, her resignation will give the American leader Donald Trump another vacancy on the board of directors of the Fed, so he is increasing pressure on the American Central Bank, demanding a reduction in the base rate. It is noted that only the president himself can dismiss the Fed governor and only if there are grounds for this.
