PSB has introduced Russian QR code recognition technologies in online banking

PSB has launched a QR code scanner for retail customers in online banking when logging in from a mobile browser based on the technology of the Russian company Smart Engines, the bank's press service said.

The Smart Engines technology integrated into the PSB online banking recognizes any QR codes, including damaged ones.

By scanning the QR code on electronic or paper media, customers can instantly pay for housing and communal services, taxes, fines, and make purchases at retail outlets. A QR code can also be used to transfer funds by scanning a card or phone number, including handwritten ones.

Artificial intelligence software and hardware algorithms make it possible to recognize payment information using WebAssembly technology directly in the user's online banking, which reliably protects customer data and excludes their transfer to third-party services, the developers said.

"QR codes have become an integral part of modern people's daily lives - the number and volume of such transactions are multiplying every year due to the convenience and constant growth in the number of outlets accepting QR code payments. In the first half of this year, the number of QR code payments among PSB customers increased by about 20%. I am sure that the new convenient solution, which guarantees instant payment by QR code even with low image quality in online banking, will increase the accessibility and convenience of payments from mobile devices for even more of our customers," said Sergey Matveev, Vice President and Director of the Digital Retail Business Department at PSB.
