Russia may develop GOST standards for mobile homes
Rosstandart was asked to develop a national GOST for tourist vehicles and mobile solutions. The National Association of Automobile Tourism and Caravanning has applied for such an initiative, TASS reports on August 22.
They called for the national standard to include the classification of such travel solutions, dividing them into motorhomes on chassis, trailer motorhomes, country trailers and mobile commercial modules. The document should specify requirements for safety, environmental friendliness, energy efficiency, weight and dimensions, the initiators said. They also asked Rosstandart to consider introducing a new OKPD 2 code for the "Tourist vehicle" category into the all-Russian product classifier.
The authors of the idea believe that the lack of uniform and modern regulatory and technical requirements hinders the development of the promising automotive tourism and caravanning industry. GOST should become "the basis for import substitution and the growth of domestic production of motorhomes and mobile solutions." The geo-economic situation has created a unique "window of opportunity" for the substitution of imported products, the appeal says.
"The growing demand from millions of car tourists and small businesses cannot be fully met due to the lack of "rules of the game," the association said.
The initiators emphasized that the lack of a national standard leads to the fact that manufacturers are forced to work in a legal "gray zone". There is also a threat to consumer safety on the roads, blocking manufacturers' access to government support measures, concessional financing and public procurement, and grants.
In May last year, Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin signed an order approving the Concept for the development of Automobile Tourism, which runs until 2035. It involves the creation of an appropriate infrastructure for road trips, as well as the creation of an interactive service for planning such trips.
Earlier, on May 29, it was reported that tourist accidents account for about 22% of the total number of CTP accidents, and tourists from Moscow are most often involved in accidents. Russians are increasingly choosing autotourism because it makes it possible to plan a route themselves (41%), allows them to move between different locations at a convenient time and at a comfortable pace (25%), and also provides budget savings compared to other types of trips (14%).
