- Lukashenko pointed to Belarus' desire to gradually improve relations with the United States.
Minsk is determined to gradually improve relations with Washington. This was announced by President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko on August 22.
"We will build relationships with them. We are aiming at this," the BelTA news agency quoted him as saying.
Lukashenko noted that Belarus has taken a number of steps towards the meeting with the United States, and is now waiting for appropriate actions from the American side.
"I didn't even talk about sanctions. I forbade you to ask. You (the United States — Ed.) know what Belarus needs," the Belarusian leader stressed.
On August 22, US President Donald Trump described his last telephone conversation with Lukashenko as wonderful, adding that the talks had been fruitful. The American leader added that he was looking forward to meeting with his Belarusian counterpart in the future.
On the same day, the Telegram channel Pool One reported that Lukashenko, during a telephone conversation with Trump, invited a colleague from the United States to come to Minsk with his family. Trump accepted the invitation.
