Russians named the most unusual ways to eat watermelon
Almost all residents of the country (96%) love watermelon. Among them, 59% eat it several times a week during high season, a third — once a month, and every 20th — every day. How Russians choose and eat watermelon was found out by analysts of the X5 Package service. Izvestia has reviewed the results of the study.
The study showed that one in five Russians considers watermelon to be a fruit. The remaining 80% still classify the fruit as berries. 92% of the respondents believe in folk signs when choosing a watermelon and pay attention to the sound when tapping on the peel, tail and spots.
"Half of the respondents (52%) admitted that they disapprove of trending recipes with watermelon from social networks. However, fans of unusual combinations made up the top of the most delicious options: watermelon with bread came first (28%), followed by ice cream (17%) or alcoholic watermelon (17%), and watermelon salads came third (9%). Russians' favorite serving of watermelon is slicing (77%)," the analysts said.
Most often, respondents buy watermelons in supermarkets (48%), but a quarter still prefer the market, 17% prefer a stall at home, and one in ten orders with home delivery. At the same time, 18% of Russians strive for profitable purchases and use loyalty programs and cashback services when choosing watermelon, 11% choose only premium varieties regardless of cost, and 8% buy the fruit only if there are promotions or discounts.
Chemist Andrey Dorokhov warned on August 8 about the risk of bacterial disease due to watermelon. According to him, bacteria, including conditionally pathogenic strains of the intestinal group, actively multiply in a sweet environment. To avoid this, watermelon should be stored in an airtight glass or food container in the refrigerator. The shelf life should not exceed 72 hours.
