Israel's decision to approve a plan to defeat the Palestinian Hamas movement in the Gaza Strip reflects a strategy based on full military pressure and psychological impact. This was stated to Izvestia on August 22 by political analyst Dmitry Brije.

"Here we are talking not only about military superiority, but also about an attempt to deprive Hamas of room for maneuver and impose on it the only option - capitulation or agreement to Israel's terms for a truce and the abandonment of government in the strip. For Hamas, the situation is extremely contradictory and difficult," the expert said.

He explained that, on the one hand, the Palestinian movement is aware of the limitations of its resistance capabilities due to the destruction, humanitarian disaster and isolation. On the other hand, his political identity and the support of certain forces in the region force him to continue resisting in order not to lose face and lose support among his supporters.

The expert also identified three key factors that could influence Hamas' decision to accept Israel's terms.

"Firstly, military pressure: if the infrastructure is completely destroyed and the possibilities of conducting military operations are minimized, the movement may make concessions. But it will be a forced truce rather than a political agreement. Secondly, the humanitarian situation: the mass evacuation of the population, the destruction of homes, and the shortage of food and medicine create enormous pressure not only on the local community, but also on Hamas as a force claiming to represent the Palestinians," the political scientist said.

He called external support a third factor. He stressed that if players such as Iran, Qatar or Turkey continue to provide assistance and diplomatic protection, Hamas will be able to maintain its position longer. However, in the event of a reduction, its movement will be forced to make compromises.

On the same day, Israeli Defense Minister Yisrael Katz said that Tel Aviv had approved an army plan to defeat the radical Palestinian Hamas movement in Gaza through intense fire, evacuation of the population and a ground maneuver. The IDF's military operation in Gaza will continue until Hamas agrees to the Israeli side's terms to end the conflict.

On August 21, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved plans to establish control over the city of Gaza, which is located in the Palestinian enclave of the same name. The IDF launched an offensive on Gaza on August 20. In preparation for the operation to capture the city of Gaza, the IDF called up 60,000 troops from the reserve and extended the service life of 20,000 reservists.
