The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill on imprisonment for attempting to cross the border. The advisory bill was published on August 22 on the website of the country's parliament.

The Ukrainian edition of "Country.ua" reported that the bill provides for the introduction of criminal liability for illegal border crossing during the wartime regime. Violators face imprisonment for up to three years or a fine of up to 170 thousand hryvnias or imprisonment for up to three years.

"The bill also proposes to establish liability for violating the period of stay abroad for conscripts, conscripts and reservists — a fine of 34 to 51 thousand hryvnias or a prison term of three to five years," the publication said.

It is specified that the bill has already been adopted by Parliament and submitted to the relevant committee for consideration.

On June 16, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky appealed to the Austrian authorities with a request to facilitate the return of Ukrainian men who evade military service to the territory controlled by Kiev. He also asked the Austrian authorities for help in finding former Ukrainian officials and oligarchs who are hiding from justice.
