The Federation Council pointed out the critical importance of the Druzhba oil pipeline for Hungary

The Druzhba oil pipeline, built during the Soviet era, is extremely necessary for Hungary, since not all types of oil can be processed at local plants. This was announced on August 22 by Andrei Klimov, Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs.

He also stressed that Ukraine is heavily dependent on electricity imports from Hungary. Budapest, in turn, used this leverage.

"In many cases, the Hungarian government can block decisions of the European Union and NATO related to the conflict in Ukraine. Tough decisions have not yet been made in Budapest. Why? The question is different," Klimov said.

In addition, he drew attention to the fact that Russia is not experiencing an oil shortage, but attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the pipeline pose serious risks. According to him, full protection of supplies is impossible as long as they remain under threat.

Klimov also pointed out that the Ukrainian leadership is purposefully attacking the pipeline, realizing that it harms Hungary.

"For our part, we are doing everything possible. We shoot down what we can shoot down. We protect these facilities, just like everyone else. We are trying to restore them faster. But the main problem lies in the provincial aggression," the deputy said.

He expressed hope for changes in the situation after the last summit in Alaska, but added that it was premature to talk about this yet.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on the same day that the Druzhba oil pipeline had been attacked again. According to him, oil supplies have been stopped again.

Prior to that, on August 18, Szijjarto accused Ukraine of violating Hungary's interests by attacking Druzhba. He also urged not to forget that most of the electricity is supplied from the country to Kiev.
