A deputy of the Latvian Seimas said people were insulted for comments in Russian.
In Latvia, citizens are massively insulted for comments in Russian on social networks. Alexey Roslikov, the leader of the Stability! party and a member of the Latvian parliament, spoke about this on August 21.
He clarified that some users leave thousands of offensive comments under the posts of Russian-speaking Latvians. The country's law enforcement agencies do not interfere in the situation. According to Roslikov, the Latvian authorities encourage such actions on social networks.
"Enough of these fairy tales about the fact that the norms of human law here are at the highest level. They have long since disappeared in Europe. <...> Their rights need to be protected and we need to move forward. To shape our agenda and our relations with our neighbors, because when this Europe collapses, no one but our neighbors will need us," the MP said in a video posted on his Telegram channel.
The Latvian State Television and radio portal LSM reported on June 5 that the Latvian Seimas removed Roslikov from the meeting for defending the Russian language. It later became known that a criminal case had been opened against Roslikov on suspicion of assisting Russia in its alleged "actions against Latvia" and "inciting national hatred and discord." On June 16, the deputy was released on his own recognizance.
