The expert listed the main mistakes of applicants in interviews
At a job interview, not only the applicant's professional skills play a role, but also his communication style and the ability to demonstrate his best qualities. Evgenia Gankina, director of the Roskachestvo Organizational Development Department, told Izvestia on Friday, August 22, which phrases are not recommended for interviews.
"The first thing HR might question is a simple "I do not know" without further explanation. If you come across a question that you don't have a ready answer to, don't shut down, stay silent, or get into a stupor. Admitting that you don't know something is the best solution, but it's important to add that you're a fast learner and ready to understand the topic. Such honesty combined with a positive attitude demonstrates your motivation and flexibility," the specialist noted.
Negativity towards a former employer or colleagues from their previous place of work can also make the wrong impression, since it is impossible to make sure whether the problem was really with them, and not with the intractability of the applicant.
"Phrases like "my boss was terrible" or "the company underestimated me" are perceived as a possible sign of conflict and a negative attitude. HR is looking for people who can find common ground and solve problems constructively, not those who shift responsibility and complain. It is better to focus on what you have learned in the past and what tasks you have successfully solved," Gankina stressed.
It is also not worth mentioning the purely material benefits when it comes to motivation to work in a particular company. Of course, decent pay is important, but it is also possible to mention the opportunities for professional growth, skills improvement and interest in the result of work.
"You should also not show excessive insecurity or, conversely, excessive self-confidence. Phrases like "I'm not sure I can handle it" raise doubts about your abilities, and overly loud statements like "you won't find anyone better than me" are perceived as a manifestation of selfishness. The optimal position is to be self—confident with a willingness to learn and work in a team," the expert recommended.
In conclusion, she advised not to use complex terms in the dialogue, the meaning of which the applicant is not sure, because there is a risk of giving the impression of an incompetent person.
Earlier, on August 15, Anna Saigina, an expert at the center for "Professions of the Future," in an interview with Izvestia, named six serious mistakes that could destroy the chances of job offers. She told us what mistakes applicants make most often during an interview. So, among the main mistakes, she named lateness and ignoring calls.
Prior to that, on July 15, Evgenia Gankina, director of the Roskachestvo Organizational Development Department, said that a full-fledged return to work processes after burnout should be approached gradually.
