- A court in Moscow has banned the dissemination of information about the verification of an Instagram account.
On July 14, the Kuntsevsky District Court in Moscow banned the dissemination of information about ways to verify accounts on the Instagram social network (owned by Meta, a company recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and whose activities are prohibited on the territory of the Russian Federation). This became known on the official website of the Moscow courts file system.
It is noted that the Kuntsevo interdistrict prosecutor Maxim Shcherbakov filed a lawsuit to ban links to materials that talk about verification methods, since in order to receive a "blue check mark" it is necessary to connect a paid Meta Verified subscription.
In court, this step was equated to financing an extremist organization.
Instagram was blocked in Russia on March 14, 2022. The decision to block it was made after it became known that Meta allowed users in some countries not to block calls for violence against Russian citizens and the military.
On March 21 of the same year, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow decided to ban Meta's activities in Russia.
