Three ancient statues were raised from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea in Egypt

Three massive statues from the era of Ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire were lifted from the bottom of the Mediterranean Sea in the port of Abu Kira near the coast of Alexandria in northern Egypt. This was announced on August 22 on the website of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities of the country.

It is noted that one of the statues is made of quartz and has the name badge of Pharaoh Ramses II. The second granite statue depicts an unknown representative of the Ptolemaic era. The third statue is made of white marble and depicts a representative of the ancient Roman nobility.

According to the head of the department, Sherif Fathi, such artifacts were recovered from the Mediterranean Sea for the first time in the last 25 years.

Earlier, on February 20, archaeologists found a new tomb of Pharaoh Thutmose II in Egypt for the first time in 100 years. The artifact was discovered near Luxor province in the south of the country. It was clarified that this is the last lost tomb of the kings of the XVIII dynasty in Egypt.
