When treating asthma, people often make the mistake of using only bronchodilators without inhaled glucocorticosteroids. About this on August 22, "Gazeta.Ru" was told by the allergologist-immunologist, Head of the Department of Allergology and Immunology of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Natalia Nenasheva.

"Despite the introduction of modern drugs and approaches to asthma therapy, many Russians continue to treat the disease with fast-acting bronchodilator inhalers. They relieve the symptoms, but do not eliminate the inflammation, which can lead to a deterioration in the long term," the doctor explained.

Therefore, Nenasheva recommended using combination therapy to minimize the impact of asthma on a person's life.

"All patients with asthma, regardless of age and severity of the disease, should take inhaled glucocorticosteroids. This is the basis of treatment, which helps control the inflammation underlying bronchial asthma and prevents exacerbations," the expert noted.

Earlier that day, Nenasheva mentioned non-obvious asthma symptoms. According to the expert, the most characteristic sign of this disease is wheezing. Asthma can also be caused by sneezing, coughing, sleep problems, reactions to pollen, and difficulty breathing. However, each of them will not necessarily talk exclusively about asthma. To do this, Nenasheva recommended monitoring the dynamics of the development of symptoms and contacting a specialist.
