The oldest person in the world from Great Britain, Ethel Caterham, turned 116 years old. This was announced on August 21 by Sky News channel.

"Caterham, who lives in a nursing home in Surrey and is the oldest person, won the title of "world champion" in May after the death of a nun [Ina Canabarro Lucas] from Brazil," the publication says.

According to the TV channel, the woman refused to talk to the press on her birthday. Caterham said she wanted to spend it "in a quiet family circle."

Caterham was born in Hampshire on August 21, 1909. She is survived by her husband and two daughters, she added "Газета.Ru ".

Earlier, on May 1, Brazilian nun Ina Canabarro Lucas, the oldest inhabitant of the world, died at the age of 116. The woman was born on June 8, 1908 in the southern city of San Francesco d'Assisi. She was ordained a nun at the age of 26.
