Schoolchildren in the UK showed record low grades in GCSE exams
This year, students from the UK received record low results in GCSE exams (the British equivalent of the OGE) in English and mathematics. This was reported by The Telegraph newspaper on August 21.
"The failure rate of GCSE exams in English and mathematics among students has reached the highest level in the last decade," the publication says.
It is specified that this year only 58.3% were able to pass the math exam. Last year, this figure was 59.5%.
According to the newspaper, the percentage of English language exams has dropped to 60.2%, which is the worst result since 2004.
The head of the British Academy, Julia Black, announced on July 15 that England's higher education system risks facing long-term decline. It clarifies that the criticism was voiced after university spending cuts amid long-term funding shortages and bankruptcies of educational institutions and a decrease in the admission of international students.
