- Lavrov: Zelensky is trying to undermine peace efforts in the style of "Kvartal 95" stunts
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov noted that Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is trying to create the appearance of activity in organizing a summit with Russia, using an approach reminiscent of the "KVN style." He stated this on August 21 at a press conference after talks with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar.
"In fact, [Zelensky is] trying to replace the serious, hard, difficult work of agreeing on the principles of a sustainable resolution of the crisis, to replace it with such effects in the style of KVN, in the style of Kvartal 95 and other tricks," Lavrov stressed, answering a question from Izvestia.
According to him, Zelensky fears that "attention to him will fall, as it is already happening."
Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Putin was ready to hold talks with Zelensky if all issues requiring discussion at the highest level were well worked out. Lavrov recalled that the Ukrainian leader has not yet revoked the decree, which explicitly prohibits contact with the President of the Russian Federation.
On August 20, Lavrov declared Russia's readiness to continue negotiations with Ukraine to resolve the conflict, if this work is honest. According to him, it should not be limited to attempts by the leaders of European countries to create conditions for involving the United States in an "aggressive militant campaign to preserve and strengthen Ukraine as an instrument of deterring Russia."
