One of the main achievements of the Alaska summit was the rapprochement of the positions of Russia and the United States on the ceasefire in Ukraine. This was stated by State Duma deputy Alexei Chepa on Thursday, August 21.

"The main principles and directions that the parties should follow in preparation for the signing of peace agreements have been identified. These are issues related to Ukraine's accession to NATO, as well as territorial and security issues. All key topics were agreed upon by the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump," the parliamentarian said in an interview with Lenta.Ru .

Chepa noted that the effectiveness of the Alaska summit was demonstrated at the talks with the participation of President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky and representatives of European countries in Washington. At this meeting, the American leader rejected the ceasefire plan before starting negotiations, Chepa recalled.

"In many ways, this key issue no longer appears in the discussions. <...> The process continues, despite the resistance of Zelensky and European leaders," he concluded.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the Russian-American summit in Alaska had helped achieve significant progress in defining the contours and parameters of a settlement to the conflict in Ukraine. He noted that it was possible to maintain this progress, despite the resistance of European leaders, RT reports.

On August 19, Bloomberg learned about the readiness of about 10 countries to send troops to Ukraine as part of providing possible security guarantees for Kiev, NSN reports. This was clarified during the summit of European officials held on the same day. According to the agency, the prerequisite for such plans was the meeting of the leaders of the European Union (EU) with Trump at the White House, which confirmed Washington's commitment to security guarantees.

Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia would not accept security guarantees implying the deployment of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine. He noted that European leaders continue to insist on the idea of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, despite Moscow's objections.
