An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 occurred off the eastern coast of Kamchatka

An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 was recorded off the east coast of Kamchatka. This was reported on August 21 in the Telegram channel of the Kamchatka branch of the FIT of the Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

According to the organization, the seismic event occurred at 23:21 local time (14:21 Moscow time). The epicenter of the earthquake was located 205 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky in the Pacific Ocean, and the center was located at a depth of 46.1 km.

Strong tremors can cause landslides, avalanches, and damage to infrastructure.

Earlier that day, seismologists had already recorded an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 off the east coast of Kamchatka. Before that, on August 20, an earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred at a distance of 93 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
