- The Russian Federation, through Qatar's mediation, handed over three Ukrainian children to their families.
Russia, through Qatar's mediation, handed over three Ukrainian children to their families. This was announced on August 21 by Maria Lvova-Belova, Commissioner for Children's Rights under the President of the Russian Federation.
"In the near future, three children will be reunited with their families in Ukraine — two boys, aged eight and 15, and a six-year-old girl. Everyone has different stories: one boy lived with his uncle in Russia, the other with his grandmother, and their mothers are waiting for them in Ukraine," Lvova—Belova wrote on her Telegram channel.
In addition, according to her, assistance was provided to an adult man with a disability to move to Ukraine. Lvova-Belova expressed gratitude to Qatar, the International Committee of the Red Cross and a number of relevant agencies for their mediation efforts.
"Today is the 15th operation, and we have already reunited more than 100 children together, and together with Maria Lvova-Belova's team, we are helping families to reunite," said one of the employees of the Qatari Embassy in Moscow.
Lvova-Belova emphasized the humanitarian nature of the work. According to her, attentiveness and an individual approach to each case makes it possible to successfully carry out family reunification activities.
Earlier, on July 16, it was reported that a 13-year-old boy had returned to Russia from Ukrainian territory through the mediation of Qatar. It was noted that the child had been living in Ukraine since 2016 with his grandmother, but the family and the boy himself expressed a desire to reunite in the Russian Federation.
