Over the past day, 367 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 28 people were killed and 450 injured. This was reported to Izvestia on August 21 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
There were 15 bus accidents in which there were no fatalities, and 17 more road users, including three children, needed medical attention. The reason for the five incidents were traffic violations committed by bus drivers.
As a result of 84 accidents involving pedestrians, 14 people were killed, and 78 more were injured in various degrees of severity. There are 27 children among the injured, 10 of whom were injured at pedestrian crossings. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 36 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 48 outside their area of operation.
74 accidents involving minors were registered, 83 young road users were injured, including 34 passengers, 27 pedestrians and 22 underage drivers. There are no dead children as a result of the accident.
The State Traffic Inspectorate drew the attention of motorists to the need for proper rest before upcoming trips, especially over long distances. It is important not to overestimate your strength and health, not to get behind the wheel in a tired or painful state.
Motorists were urged to avoid sudden rash maneuvers and realignments, observe the interval and distance between vehicles, and do not exceed the speed limit. The parents' attention was drawn to the need to strictly observe the rules for transporting children in the car. At any time of the day, it is necessary to use external lighting devices with on, fog lights in bad weather, and in conditions of heavy fog or rain, reduce speed as much as possible and move with the alarm lights on.
The State Traffic Inspectorate called for always taking into account the requirements of markings, road signs and traffic lights. You should be especially careful when passing intersections. You should not rush to start or continue driving when changing traffic lights, it is important to be extremely careful and monitor the traffic situation. The traffic police also advised to always slow down to a complete stop when approaching crossings in order to allow pedestrians to pass.
"If you become a participant in an accident, you need to identify the scene, call the traffic police, and if there are victims, an ambulance team. In addition, due to changes in atmospheric pressure, the State Traffic Inspectorate recommends that drivers take more care of their well-being. If you suddenly feel unwell while driving, you should immediately stop the car, call a doctor if necessary, or use public transport services," said Police Colonel Anton Belan, Deputy head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of Child Traffic Injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
On August 18, the Russian Interior Ministry reported that currently traffic cameras are not used to automatically check CTP policies. The agency did not specify when exactly the inspection of the avtograzhdanka from the cameras would be launched.
