Lukashenko announced his intention to discuss missile modernization with Putin
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko intends to discuss with Russian President Vladimir Putin further steps to modernize missile production. The Belarusian leader stated this during a meeting of the relevant meeting on August 21.
"I will consult with the President of Russia on how we will act together and whether the Russian Federation will be interested in our proposals and further steps to modernize and create missile production within our union," the BelTA news agency quoted Lukashenko as saying.
The Belarusian leader also drew attention to the development of military threats and a significant increase in military spending by Western countries. According to Lukashenko, such measures force Minsk to constantly pay attention to issues of defense capability, in particular, within the framework of the Union State.
He also stressed that it is necessary to take into account the country's small experience in rocket engineering, which was formed, among other things, with the support of Russia.
On March 14, Lukashenko announced that the Russian Oreshnik ballistic missile system would soon enter service with the Belarusian army. According to him, the launcher for this rocket is manufactured in Belarus. Later, on May 28, he announced that the missile system would be deployed in the country until the end of 2025.
On August 8, Lukashenko announced that the positions for the deployment of Oreshnik in Belarus had already been determined and were being settled.
