The media activity of the "coalition of the willing" is aimed at undermining the progress achieved in relations between Russia and the United States after the Alaska talks. This was announced on August 21 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar.

"I see many signs that this activity is aimed precisely at undermining the progress that has become clear following the results of the Alaska summit and the contacts between representatives of the American administration and the Russian side that preceded it," Lavrov said, answering a question from Izvestia correspondent Viktor Sineok.

According to the Russian Foreign Minister, the purpose of the statements by the leaders of the "coalition of the willing" is to interrupt the agenda and divert attention from eliminating the root causes of the crisis in Ukraine and transfer it to providing security guarantees to Kiev without taking into account Russia's interests.

"We will continue to follow the course that was clearly agreed upon by the presidents of Russia and the United States during their meeting in Alaska and during subsequent telephone contacts," the minister concluded.

On August 19, Bloomberg learned about the readiness of about 10 countries to send troops to Ukraine as part of providing possible security guarantees for Kiev. This was clarified during the summit of European officials held on the same day. According to the agency, the prerequisite for such plans was the meeting of the leaders of the European Union (EU) with US President Donald Trump at the White House, which confirmed Washington's commitment to security guarantees.

Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said that Russia would not accept security guarantees implying the deployment of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine. He noted that European leaders continue to insist on the idea of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, despite Moscow's objections.
