Lavrov announced Putin's possible visit to India before the end of the year
Russian President Vladimir Putin may visit India before the end of this year. This was announced on August 21 by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a joint press conference with Indian Foreign Minister Subramaniam Jaishankar.
"Our political interaction <...> has high dynamics. And today we discussed upcoming events within the framework of this dialogue, including preparations for the visit of the President of the Russian Federation to India before the end of this year," Lavrov said.
According to the Russian Foreign Minister, a solid package of documents will be prepared in preparation for this summit. In addition, the Russian side informed its Indian colleagues about the status of negotiations with the United States on the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
"We talked [with representatives of India] about how this interest in an early settlement is now... It can materialize in practice in a way that fully takes into account the legitimate security interests of all participants," Lavrov concluded.
During a telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 18, Vladimir Putin discussed the prospects for a long-term settlement of the crisis in Ukraine. The leaders of the two countries also agreed to continue the dialogue on this issue. Modi said that India has consistently called for a peaceful solution to the Ukrainian crisis and supports all efforts in this direction. He added that he was looking forward to continuing meetings with the Russian president in the coming days.
