- Belarus announced the possibility of equipping the Polonaise complex with nuclear charges
Belarus is considering equipping the Polonaise missile systems with nuclear missiles. This was announced on August 21 by Alexander Volfovich, Secretary of the Republic's Security Council, following a meeting on missile production.
"Today it is a state-of-the-art complex. <...> It is a high-precision weapon. Of course, any weapon requires adjustments and changes. Questions are already being raised about equipping these missiles with nuclear warheads," the BelTA news agency quoted Volfovich as saying.
He noted that the range of the Polonaise missiles reaches 300 km. The People's Republic of China participated in the development of the complex. In addition, Belarus is considering the possibility of integrating Oreshnik technologies into joint missiles with Russia.
"[The issue of] how to integrate Oreshnik technologies, maybe into some joint missiles, is being studied,— Volfovich added.
The Secretary of the Security Council stressed that there is no talk of threats to anyone.
"We are watching how our neighbors, Western countries, and the Americans are creating similar complexes with a range of 600 km or more. Of course, we need to keep up and go in this direction," he concluded.
On March 14, President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko announced that the Oreshnik would soon enter service with the Belarusian army. According to him, the launcher for this rocket is manufactured in Belarus. Later, on May 28, he announced that the missile system would be deployed in the country until the end of 2025.
On August 8, Lukashenko announced that the positions for the deployment of the Oreshnik missile system in Belarus had already been determined and were being set up.
