Ankara considers it premature to speculate about a possible peacekeeping mission in Ukraine until a ceasefire is reached. This was reported on August 21 by the TRT Haber TV channel, citing a source in the Turkish Ministry of Defense.

The ministry said that Turkey contributes to all initiatives aimed at ensuring peace in the region. Before the topic of peacekeepers is discussed, the parties must determine the conditions for ending the conflict.

"First, it is necessary to achieve a ceasefire between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, and then define the framework of the mission with a clearly defined task and the degree of contribution of each country. It is incorrect to make estimates and forecasts until a specific basis is provided," the representative of the Turkish Ministry of Defense is quoted as saying.

Russian Deputy Security Council Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said earlier on August 21 that Russia would not accept security guarantees implying the deployment of NATO troops on the territory of Ukraine. He noted that European leaders continue to insist on the idea of sending NATO troops to Ukraine, despite Moscow's objections.

On August 19, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, after an online meeting of the coalition of the willing, said that the leaders of the countries had spoken about the need to support Ukraine in the future. Tusk noted that the leaders of Canada, Japan, Turkey, New Zealand and European countries appreciated the results of the meeting between US Presidents Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
