Russian Russian Museum's exhibition "The Image of Moscow in Russian Art from the collection of the State Russian Museum" will open at VDNH on September 6. The works will be presented in Pavilion No. 1 "Central", Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said in the MACH messenger.
According to him, for the first time in history, the Russian Museum will bring such an extensive collection of 115 paintings and sculptures from St. Petersburg to the capital.
"The exhibition will show how the image of Moscow has changed, from the spiritual center of Russia to a modern metropolis," said Sobyanin.
The central work will be Ilya Repin's painting "The Solemn Meeting of the State Council on May 7, 1901." The exhibition will also feature works by other authors — Andrei Rublev, Apollinarius Vasnetsov, Vasily Surikov, Vasily Vereshchagin, Yuri Pimenov, Natalia Nesterova.
Russians Russian Museum houses about 450,000 exhibits that reflect all the trends in the development of Russian art from the tenth to the twenty-first century.
