About 40% of requests for medical help among non—professional athletes are related to knee joint injuries - ruptures or sprains that occur when the body turns sharply or lands incorrectly. Denis Goltsov, a SAMBO wrestler from the Otechestvo Martial Arts Society, told Izvestia about this on August 22.
The second most common injury is to the ankle joint, accounting for up to a quarter of all cases. They usually occur when landing on an uneven surface or due to insufficient foot fixation in shoes. The third position is occupied by shoulder and elbow injuries caused by joint overload during impact movements, throws or incorrect exercise technique, Goltsov specified.
"Stress fractures are a particular problem — microcracks in the bones that occur with prolonged repetition of the same type of movements without sufficient recovery. Among amateur runners, 20 to 80% of people are injured per year, which is due to a sharp increase in mileage, lack of strength training and violation of running techniques," the athlete warned.
To prevent injury, he recommended following the principle of gradualism — to increase the load by no more than 10% per week. A warm-up and a hitch lasting at least 10 minutes each should be mandatory elements of the workout. When running, it is important to use shoes with shock-absorbing soles and change them every 600-800 km. In the classroom, it is necessary to monitor the technique of performing exercises and not work with excessive weights.
Recovery is crucial: sleep for at least 7-8 hours, 1-2 days of rest per week, and alternating types of activity. Ignoring pain signals, especially aching joint pain or sharp muscle pain, often leads to a long break in training. Injury prevention requires a comprehensive approach, from proper equipment and equipment to an adequate recovery regime, the sambo wrestler concluded.
