Ukraine needs guarantees similar to those provided by the United States to Israel. This was announced on August 21 by Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky.

According to him, the US policy is to exclude Ukraine's likely membership in NATO. At the same time, he noted that the American side supports the prospect of the country's inclusion in the European Union (EU).

"These are their two positions. That's why they say that, like Article 5 [of the North Atlantic Treaty], but it has to be a strong decision. Israel has the appropriate guarantees. If there are strong guarantees from the United States, then they work," Zelensky said in an interview with the UNIAN news agency.

Earlier in the day, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, ruled out Moscow accepting the deployment of NATO troops in Ukraine as part of security guarantees. He clarified that European leaders continue to insist on the idea of sending an alliance military contingent despite Russia's objections.

Prior to that, US Vice President Jay Dee Vance said that Washington would not commit to security guarantees for Kiev without understanding the conditions for ending the conflict. According to him, the lion's share of guarantees should be assumed by European countries.
