AvtoVAZ reports on plant improvements and preparations for Azimut production
During the three weeks of the corporate vacation (July 28 — August 17) AvtoVAZ was engaged in maintenance and modernization of equipment. During this time, 10.8 thousand works worth more than 247 million rubles were performed in all divisions of the company, as well as at subsidiaries PSA VIS-Avto and LADA-Izhevsk. This is stated in the company's message, which was received by Izvestia on August 21.
Thus, a significant part of the modernization was related to the preparation of production of the first Lada crossover called Azimut. Preparatory work has been carried out on the assembly line, allowing the installation of original components on the car — a panoramic roof and wheels with a five-bolt mount. Preparations for the release of the model were carried out in welding workshops (23 new robots were installed), as well as in the engine production, where upgraded engines will be produced.
In addition, a robotic body floor manufacturing complex (previously a manual operation) was installed in the Lada Iskra welding shop, which increased the productivity of the line. New paint chambers have been installed in the Lada Granta and Iskra paint shop and the robots for applying varnish have been replaced with the most modern and technologically advanced models. Automation of loading of body sidewalls has been introduced in the Granta welding shop, which should increase production efficiency and save up to 6 million rubles per year, the company noted. Granta welding operations are more than 85% robotic.
The Vesta production facility has installed a robotic body floor welding system, and the robots on the body base welding line have been upgraded. A major overhaul of the floor plate conveyor was carried out at the Niva assembly line: 1.4 thousand meters of upper and lower track sections were replaced. The welding lines were also upgraded and the paint preparation department in the paint shop was retrofitted. As part of the pre-production of the new 1.8-liter engine for the Niva family, work was carried out in the engine assembly shop.
Finally, AvtoVAZ carried out a complex of works related to the preparation and shipment of Lada Iskra assembly kits to Avtozavod Saint Petersburg (ex-Nissan), which has been producing crossovers of the Russian Xcite brand since last year.
Prior to that, on July 22, AvtoVAZ announced that it was considering switching to a four-day working week. The automaker cited the high key rate and stricter regulatory requirements for car loan borrowers as the reasons for the difficult market situation.
