Shamsutdinov, a conscript convicted of murder, was not taken into custody.
Ramil Shamsutdinov, a former conscript soldier who is serving 24.5 years in prison for the murder of his colleagues, was denied participation in a special military operation, despite his repeated requests. This was announced on August 21 by his lawyer Ruslan Nagiyev.
According to the lawyer, starting in 2022, Shamsutdinov asked many times to be allowed to take part in a special operation.
"I wrote letters, the last time last year, but there are no answers," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
On October 25, 2019, Shamsutdinov opened fire while handing over the guard at a military unit in the Trans-Baikal Territory. Eight people were killed and two more were seriously injured. The criminal explained his act by non-statutory relations in the military unit. He was taken into custody after the incident.
In December 2019, he and several other soldiers were recognized as victims in the case of hazing in a military unit. In the same month, the conscript wrote a letter in which he asked for forgiveness from the families of those killed. A psychiatric examination found him sane.
On January 21, 2021, the Second Eastern District Military Court in Chita sentenced Shamsutdinov to 24.5 years in a high—security penal colony, and also partially satisfied the victims' claims for a total of 9.8 million rubles.
