MP Mironov proposed to ban the rental of electric scooters in Russia
Sergei Mironov, chairman of the Fair Russia – For Truth party, proposed on August 21 to introduce a complete ban on the rental of electric scooters in Russia.
"In order to systematically solve the problem and prevent a further increase in injuries and deaths of pedestrians, it is necessary to introduce a complete ban on electric scooter rentals in the Russian Federation," the TASS news agency quoted Mironov's letter sent to Russian Transport Minister Andrei Nikitin.
The deputy noted that today there are no effective mechanisms to prevent threats to human life and health during the operation of an electric scooter. He stressed that the speed limit of 25 km/h and the permission to travel on sidewalks do not take into account the real risks.
According to the chairman of the party, the ban on the rental of electric scooters will eliminate the main source of danger associated with the massive use of electric scooters.
Earlier, on August 19, Russia proposed exploring the possibility of introducing special insurance for users of personal mobility equipment (SIM), including electric scooters, which would work on the principle of CTP, but would be voluntary. According to the initiative, such an insurance product should provide for long-term life and health insurance of the SIM user and liability to third parties, as well as compensation payments in connection with damage to other people's health, property or infrastructure.
