Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Tibet for the second time on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the formation of the autonomous region. This was reported by the Reuters news agency on August 20.

"Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, on Wednesday for his second visit as the leader of China to mark the 60th anniversary of the formation of Tibet as an autonomous region," the publication says.

It is noted that the last time Xi Jinping visited Tibet was in 2021. During it, the head of the People's Republic of China called on local residents to "follow the example of the party," the agency informs. Prior to that, the last Chinese ruler to visit the region was Jiang Zemin, who made his visit in 1990.

On March 31, Secretary of State Mark Rubio announced that the United States would impose visa sanctions on Chinese officials due to restrictions on foreign citizens' access to the Tibetan Autonomous Region. According to him, China does not allow foreigners, including diplomats and journalists, to visit the region, although they have wide access to the United States.

The Tibet Autonomous Region was founded in 1965. At the same time, Chinese was introduced as the official language and the establishment of a socio-economic system began, which worked in the rest of the PRC.
