- NI announced the strengthening of the Russian presence in the Asia-Pacific region with the help of the Admiral Amelko frigate
The Admiral Amelko frigate will allow Russia to strengthen its military presence in the Asia-Pacific region. This was stated on August 20 by American analyst and national security expert Brandon Weichert in an article by the American magazine The National Interest (NI).
"The Russian Navy's 22350 project, better known as the Admiral Gorshkov-class frigate, is the next logical step in Russia's surface fleet modernization program. These multi—purpose missile frigates are designed to expand Russia's capabilities on the high seas, performing tasks from anti-submarine warfare (ABM) to long-range strikes," the magazine said.
Weichert noted that Admiral Amelko is the fifth vessel and the first to increase its missile capabilities.
"It includes 24 UCSC VLS cells for Kalibr cruise missiles, Onyx supersonic missiles, Zircon hypersonic weapons and Response anti-submarine missiles <...>. In addition, 32 VLS Redut cells house surface-to-air missiles. <...> Short-range Protection is provided by a 130-mm A-192M naval gun, two Broadsword melee systems (CIWS) with 30-mm rotary cannons and Paket-NK torpedo tubes," Weichert described the frigate.
According to the analyst, such equipment allows the frigate to effectively hit underwater and ground targets.
Earlier, on July 18, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko spoke about the negative consequences of Western policy in the Asia-Pacific region. In his opinion, the West is seeking to fragment the Asia-Pacific region by creating small military blocs instead of a unified security system.
