- Vance said the United States was unwilling to commit to guaranteeing Ukraine's security.
U.S. Vice President Jay Dee Vance said on August 20 that the country would not commit to guaranteeing Ukraine's security without understanding the conditions for ending the conflict.
"The United States is open to dialogue, but we are not going to commit ourselves until we figure out what is needed to end the conflict in the first place," Vance said in an interview with Fox News.
At the same time, European countries, according to the US Vice President, should assume the "lion's share" of Ukraine's security guarantees.
"This is their continent. This is their safety," the politician said.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Europe was calling on Trump to deploy US F-35 fighter jets in Romania. As the newspaper noted, in addition, European countries want to receive guarantees for the continued use of American satellites for GPS and reconnaissance in Ukraine. They want to commit the United States to supply Ukraine with Patriot air defense missiles.
