The American side has notified its allies of its intention to limit itself to a minimal contribution in providing security guarantees for Ukraine. This was reported by the Politico newspaper on August 20, citing sources.

"On Tuesday evening, a senior Pentagon political official informed a small group of allies that the United States plans to play a minimal role in providing any security guarantees to Ukraine," the publication says.

It is noted that the plans were announced by the US Deputy Secretary of Defense for Political Affairs Elbridge Colby in response to the demand of the heads of the defense departments of Great Britain, France, Germany and Finland to disclose information about the military forces that the United States is ready to send to help Ukraine after the conclusion of a possible peace agreement between Kiev and Moscow.

It is noted that the meeting raised concerns among US allies. US President Donald Trump is expected to rely on Europe to provide security guarantees after the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.

On August 20, Bloomberg learned about the readiness of about 10 countries to send troops to Ukraine as part of providing possible security guarantees for Kiev. This was clarified during the summit of European officials. According to the agency, the meeting of the leaders of the European Union (EU) with Trump at the White House, which confirmed Washington's commitment to security guarantees, was a prerequisite for the relevant plans.

On August 19, Politico reported, citing a statement by European Union (EU) officials, that Paris and London would experience difficulties in the event of a potential deployment of troops to Ukraine due to the weakness of the political leadership - British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and French President Emmanuel Macron.
