- Fox News reported on the elimination of the US Armed Forces of the future leader of ISIS in Syria
The US armed Forces conducted an operation in northern Syria, during which they eliminated an Islamic State militant (ISIL, IG, the organization is recognized as a terrorist and banned in the territory of the Russian Federation), who could become the next leader of the group in the country. This was reported on August 20 by the Fox News channel, citing sources.
"On Tuesday, the US military conducted a raid in northern Syria, as a result of which a senior ISIS figure was killed, who was supposed to become the next leader of the group in the country," the publication says.
Another militant, who held the position of a "key financial official" of the group, was also killed. During a conversation with the TV channel, one of the American officials described the raid as a "successful operation."
It is noted that the possible future leader of ISIS posed a direct threat to both the United States and its coalition allies, as well as to the new Syrian government.
"None of the civilians were injured or killed, none of the US or coalition troops were injured," the authors of the material assured.
Earlier, on August 14, the plane carrying IG militant Ruslan Botashev (listed as a terrorist and extremist in the Russian Federation) arrived in Moscow. Botashev was taken to the territory of the Russian Federation to be prosecuted for participating in the activities of a terrorist organization.
On March 21, the authorities of Niger declared three days of mourning after 44 people were killed by terrorists from the Islamic State in Greater Sahara (IGBS), which is an organization of the Islamic State. According to the country's Interior Ministry, the attack took place on a mosque in a rural area of the southwestern part of Niger.
