Taxi drivers ask to cancel the requirement for daily medical examinations
Social activists proposed to the government to cancel pre-trip medical examinations of drivers in five regions of Russia as part of an experiment. The appeal of the Digital World Union says that the fulfillment of this requirement is hampered by a critical lack of infrastructure: in order to provide 10,000 taxi drivers with the opportunity to undergo mandatory medical examinations, about 60 round-the-clock medical centers are needed.
"But now there are from 1 to 5 medical centers in cities with a population of 500 thousand people," the letter says.
Based on the results of the experiment, it would be possible to consider the possibility of excluding these norms from the law, the chairman of this organization, Valery Korneev, told Izvestia.
The idea of conducting such an experiment was supported by the Association of the Self-employed of Russia, stating that it would allow drivers to work without excessive demands.
"Medical and technical pre—trip inspections have long been fictitious, and with their abolition, nothing will change in terms of safety, except that at least one administrative barrier to entry into the market will cease to operate for drivers," said Ivan Litvinov, the head of the organization.
In response to a request from Izvestia, the Ministry of Transport called pre-trip inspections "a basic guarantee that the taxi transportation service provided is safe."
Nevertheless, the agency is ready to consider options for optimizing existing procedures using digital technologies, together with the automotive and expert community, the press service of the Ministry of Transport reported.
